“THE SYMPHONY”
(2022)
video, 5 min:15 sec
This piece is a soundscape composition of an industrial machinery and metal ecosystem through its fictional-documentary cinematography. Taken at the core of the covid 19 pandemic, the footage showcases an orchestration of a costume workshop of hundreds of hatters artisans, shoemakers, pattern makers, remodelled into a utilitarian factory. Every artisan-worker is responsible for a single task - onto the same straight line every day for multiple hours, deconstructing a privileged setting as it captures talented artisans, all reduced in the blink of an eye to taylorism-like chain work, sewing hospital gowns of patient infected with covid 19. The production is one of synchronicity in intentions, glorifying values of collectivism, distributing the protagonist position to the ensemble. All of this is not meant to address the pandemic situation or take a stance on its significance, but rather highlight how workers can organize to overcome overwhelming events through solidarity and union.
